FOUNDATIONS LARGEST FUNDRAISER

What better way to spend your post-Thanksgiving carb overload than at the 8th Annual Lighthouse Foundation Classic? Come out to Corinth High School to watch some of our local high school boys’ basketball players duke it out on the court. Not only will there be local teams, but there will be four teams from across the US and Canada playing for a Championship. It’s destined to be a barnburner of a showdown.

While everyone else is Black Friday Shopping you can be supporting a great cause while watching top-notch talent on the court. This event has had top high school players compete in the Classic and go on to have a career in the NBA. Scouts have been known to be in attendance hoping to find the next star for their program.

The Foundation volunteers will be on hand to assist you from the moment you park. Since the games draw such large crowds, a shuttle bus is available to carry attendees from their car to the front door. You will be greeted with smiling faces at the ticket table where you can also pick up your copy of the brochure highlighting the teams participating.

There are different ticket options depending on if you plan to attend both days. A two-day come and go pass is $30. Ticket prices decrease from there. I know your next question will be: What about food? Of course, there will be concessions with all of your favorite game foods.

“The Lighthouse Classic is the largest fundraiser for the Lighthouse Foundation each year.” said Gary Caveness. Gary has been the Executive Director of the Foundation since 1995. It draws in crowds from all over the tri-state area. The money raised by the two-day event goes toward supporting the Lighthouse Foundations many programs for the underprivileged kids in the City of Corinth. The Foundation offers several programs for boys and girls, from tutoring to the GED program, along with funding for summer camp to the Christmas Toy Store. The Foundation works year around to help kids grow up to be productive, educated adults.

The Foundation operates with an incredible staff and a large group of community volunteers. Besides this classic and the programs, they offer to students, the Foundation has a Christmas Toy Store every year. They accept donations from toys to clothes and everything in between a kid would want for Christmas.

This program is set up a little different from other Christmas programs for those in need during the holiday season. After families qualify for the Store, the parent(s) have a day to “shop” for their child’s Christmas wish list. Like other programs it helps families during their time of need, but their program allows the parents to have a part in picking out their child’s gifts.
